| The murder of Mildred Weiss |
|
Place: Hollywood, Florida
Crime: The murder of 85-year-old Mildred Weiss in the laundry room of her Hollywood apartment building in 1994. Why authorities sought FDP testing: Although other residents of the building were able to describe a suspicious man, the police were unable to develop any leads. In 2005 crime novelist Patricia Cornwell, who had a relationship with the Hollywood police department, became interested in the unsolved case. Cornwell paid for the DNA recovered at the scene to be tested by DNAPrint in hopes of uncovering new leads. Lab that conducted FDP analysis: DNAPrint, a Florida-based commerical, for-profit laboratory. Outcome: DNAPrint identified the DNA as coming from a black man, which matched the information police already had from the residents who had observed a suspicious man leaving the scene. No further information can be located about this case, and it is assumed that no suspect has been arrested. |
